About Pepe
Pepe (PEPE) is a memecoin on Ethereum themed around Pepe the Frog, a cartoon character that became a widespread internet meme. It has no built-in purpose beyond being traded and shared as a joke; its own website openly calls it useless and says it exists for entertainment only. It is an ERC-20 token, so it can be kept in standard Ethereum wallets and is traded on many large exchanges.
PEPE was released in April 2023 with no presale, no trading fees and no named team. Its creators remain anonymous, and the project says it has no connection to Matt Furie, the artist who drew the original frog. About 93% of tokens went into a trading pool whose liquidity tokens were burned, and the rest sat in a shared wallet set aside for exchange listings. Binance listed it within weeks.
Because control of the token contract was given up, nobody can change its rules or create more coins, so the supply is fixed at about 420.69 trillion. All security comes from Ethereum. The downside is that there is no roadmap, product or accountable team. In 2023 former team members moved trillions of tokens out of the reserve wallet and sold them, and in 2025 its official website was hijacked to spread wallet-draining code.
